Playmates Toys · 1990 · layout & design by Shining Life Press
What they actually were. Not a mail-in offer. Playmates packed one fold-out map inside each of eight of its 1990 vehicles — the map is the reason you remember which toy a sheet came from. Each sheet is A4 landscape, black ink on white stock, printed in Hong Kong, laid out and designed by Shining Life Press of Pasadena.
How they fit. The eight sheets tile four across by two down, and the numbering is not sequential. Assembled, the result is a cross-section of the whole city: skyline on top, sewer network beneath.
147 captions were transcribed from the original sheets for this rendition. Note that “Turtle Lair” never appears on them — the lair is “Home Sewer Home” on #8, “Home of the Ninja Pizza” on #1, “Turtles at Work” on #7.
This is an independent homage. Playmates Toys, Mirage Studios and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the property of their respective owners. No affiliation. Press I for ink line-art, C to switch the cutaway, L for labels, 1–8 for a sheet, Esc to release. Double-click any caption to close the cutaway and drop the camera inside the pipe.
